I am obsessed by collecting Nail Polish – I find this is the easiest way to indulge 3 cravings in 1: Instant glamour (they don’t call them nail “polish” for nothing – have you noticed how Red Nails instantly inject stylishness into any PJs Sunday outfit), Impulse Buying (as they are often a no-brainer purchase given their usually friendly price points) and Intense Colours (nails are regret guilt-free territory for exotic colours).
But despite my extensive colour collections, I tend to operate within a precise set of rules.
1. Rarely Never colour coordinate nails and toes (or god-forbide eye shadows!). Well, firstly, because I am not a big fan of anything matchy-matchy (although I just read somewhere there is a HUGE comeback of matching – belt AND bag ANd shoes! – oh dear…). Then secondly, because they serve a completely different purpose (nails on your hands and feet that is).
2. For hands, I would usually go for Classics. Most often that not, Nude. When I am in the mood for some pick me up colour, I indulge in Red or Black.
3. For toes, it is more season dependant. In the winter, I just make sure they look kept for my own personal satisfaction as I love wandering around (the house) bare foot – so it tends to be a dark shade of red ( I gave up black when I realised it led to some lazy maintenance – coat over coat over coat – that I have to ultimately pay the price for, aesthetically and literally as only a professional is then able to strap all that blackness out…and reprimand me in the process…).
In Summer though, I go down the route of any shade that might compliment tanned skin or bring a big of summery cheer – so either Nude or Bright Orange (or any Ice Lolly colour I can get my hands on).
Last week, I was in one of those familiar hunts for the 3 aforementioned cravings; when I stopped by the Cosmetic Aisle of my local drugstore to browse the Nail Polish fixture – in my head, I was thinking Cotton Candy (not sure why…probably because of my sugar craving du jour) BUT when I saw Camouflage it was an instant “coup de foudre”. And instead of pink, I brought back Green.
On my way back, I started already questioning that choice: “Green… really? would I actually ever wear it? or would it simply join the hall of never-worn colours aka the secret hidden drawer of my dressing table?”
But surprise, surprise, when I got back home and looked at it – I fell so in love with its gorgeous shade of green (I wish I could say because it matches my eyes but it doesn’t!) that I decided to try it on – as the risk factor associated with doing so on a Sunday evening is pretty low (plenty of time to remove).
And you know what? Trash all those pre-conceptions – that Green was not only GORGEOUS but also surprisingly WEARABLE. In fact – so much so that I decided to break my own rules (which is what I love to have rules) and embraced that shade as my daily nail wear.
I think I just found my new nail colour Classics.
What do you think?
Do you have a go-to colour? Are you colour brave or neutral classic?
bisous bisous

Hindas!
I am definitely a big fan of your writings! Really! You a very stylish lady!
For a woman, it is very feminine to always have good-looking and clean hands, so the choice of the nail polish quality and color is very important.
First of all, let me tell you that I just fall in love with your green, it’s “WooooW” and it perfectly suits to your beautiful and white hands! It’s your style, it’s you and it’s very glamour!
I agree with you on the fact that hands and toes need different colors, depending on the season, the skin color: brighter & lolly colors for summery tanned skin…
As far as I am concerned, I particularly love the French manucure and my favorite nail polish is OPI. I used to go to the nails SPA “Beaux Ongles” here in Casablanca, where they have qualified Asian staff.
For the French, it’s clean, it’s classical, and it goes with all clothes and all seasons. For evening occasions, if I am especially dressed in black, it will be red! Actually, red is just fantastic in nail polishes or lipsticks, I find it very sexy!
For autumn/winter, I will say dark red…I will add your green, I like it so much!
Now for the summer bling-bling colors, all is allowed: fushia, orange, pink…it marvelously goes with the tan…
Finally, I thank you for sharing with us all those beautiful things!!
Bravo Hind et bisous bisous à toi et Zackounet!
Loubna, thank you very much for your very sweet comment
You are right – I actually forgot about the timeless french – always IN trend and makes one looks polished without going over the top.
I am glad I am sharing my love for the Green – let me know if you want some tips on which brands etc..
bisous bisous
