To (faux) Fur or not To Fur

I am not a coat person. I see coats as a very functional piece of clothing, which sole purpose is to shelter me from the cold. And given the usually hefty price tag associated with (decent) coats, I rarely impulse-buy them. Instead, I rely on Hubby (who is always very concerned about my body temperature) to buy me one as some kind of present (always gorgeous as the man has very good taste) that I then rely on for the next couple of years.

But lately, a change has been creeping on…

Maybe it is peer pressure ( my friends who are literally OBSESSED especially in this sales season by ”un beau manteau*”…you know who you are :) ) or maybe it’s the  sinking realisation that actually coats could do wonders to my week-end uniform (tees and skinny jeans) style creds, but suddenly here I am fantasising about coatS. Yes with an S as in plural!

My initial quest was to find a Sophisticated Oversized Polished Chic Camel coat (I think capital letters here are kind of mandatory). But I have struggled so far to find it in any shop/brand without costing me a leg.

The look I am going for. This one is by Chloe.

And, as if becoming obsessed with coats wasn’t worrying enough, my quest for the perfect beige chic coat was sidetracked by a new, controversial and quite suprising new coat obsession.

Fur. Or to be exact Faux Fur.

For those of you who have actually fainted, decided to de-friend me or report me to some kind of mental institute, believe me I KNOW how bizarre this sounds. But still…

Not sure if it is the soaring temperatures, my re-viewing of some early Sex & The City episodes where Carrie was rocking her infamous vintage fur coat or simply the fact that the more I grow into my thirties the more my fashion taste tends to go dangerously down the “madame” side, but I became obsessed with finding me the perfect faux fur coat.

How can you EVER forget THAT coat? You can throw it over PJs and Uggs and still look stylish. I think.

And this could have been a passing obsession IF I haven’t stumbled across exactly what I was looking for at the very cool Ruby & Ed.

All my friends I made aware of this desired future purchase were horrified; but again that was the case the first time I decided to start wearing Ray Bans aviators back in 1999 or sandals with socks some 10 years ago. We have all grown into it.

And I promise that I will never ever wear it grand-ma or cocotte style but only use to wrap around my cotton shirts on those cold week end playground mornings?

And if it’s good enough for Carrie (Bradshow) and Sienna (Miller), it surely good enough for me.

Sienna Miller rocking THAT ruby and Ed coat

So now that we have all established that I am going to buy this baby anyway, I need some help to choose which style: full on coat OR shorter version?

YOU tell me :)

Bisous bisous.

* french for “a beautiful coat”

Fuis!

      Bisous bisous!

My 2 cents: if you absolutely must go for a full blown furry coat, the shorter version is bound to be more flattering than the long one, it’s less Yeti, more Yummy Mummy. But I worry about the volume of the fur you’re considering here, it is quite fluffy isn’t it?
Btw, if you still want that sleek camel coat once you’ve seen your fluffy faux fur, you know where there is one with your name on it.
Happy new year my dear. xxx S

hey Sandra – happy new year to you too. Hope you had a lovely and relaxing break :)
The more I think about it, the more I need to go and try it live as I am indeed concerned, hum hum, about the excess volume…especially in those not very forgiving post christmas weeks.
I think there is a shop on the Kings road that has both model so I might try and give it a proper try and wrap this up if I get Hubby’s aka style advisor’s stamp of approval.
    Bisous bisous!
